1. - PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The Bell Pepper is part of a reduced genre of tropical herbs belonging to the family of Dulcamara Solanaceas, it refers to varieties of Sweet pepper, there are many varieties, of different growth, size, shape, color and pungency of the fruit; it is a fresh Chili almost always dark green or red, but it is also found in yellow and orange, it is large, glossy, fleshy. They are commonly called Peppers or Pimentos.

CLIMATE

The optimum relative humidity is between 50 and 70%; under conditions of low relative humidity and high temperature a drop of flowers occur, as a consequence of excessive aspiration, due to high temperatures of day and night with slight differences between them. At low temperatures (below 8 to 10°C, plants do not vegetate), which may cause hardening and stoppages which in turn, can cause excessive small fruit set and of poor quality. High temperatures can also reduce the quality of the fruit by the loss of size and poorer color. It is considered the range of appropriate temperature for this phase of 21 to 30°C, always avoiding temperatures below 18°C, a condition with which starts growth arrest.

PLANTING

The Bell Pepper is grown by transplant; it should be done when the soil is duly prepared; when sowing is manual, 50 cm (19.68 in) between the plants.

HARVEST

Green Bell Peppers are usually harvested when they are large and firm in the immature green stage, it can also be allowed to ripe to red, yellow, orange, purple, or other colors.

USES

Its use stands mainly for human consumption, since it is used in a wide range of foods as a spice or condiment. The entire population can consume it.

The shelf life of Bell Pepper, like that of most vegetables and fruits, depends heavily of a proper pre-cooling and that the cold chain does not break, when conditions are rights, Bell Pepper may have a maximum shelf life of 12 to 15 days.
