Belonging to the family of the Cucurbitaceous, of creeping or climbing bearing, watermelon is an annual herbaceous plant with a highly branched root system. Of petiolate leaves and yellow flowers, solitary and peduncular that attracts insects with its smell, color and nectar.

The fruit has red flesh, consistent, sweet and juicy, which is not surprising considering that approximately 92% of watermelon is water.

In order to detect the degree of maturity, it must be considered the color, which should be a deep green, not opaque and the shell must be relatively smooth, also, it must have the distinct area in a yellow-creamy shade, where the watermelon rested on the floor during its maturation.
